Solo vs team
The difference between solo local use and syncing with a team.
Operon has two ways to work, and they are the same app. Solo keeps everything on your machine with zero cloud dependency. Team adds an opt-in sync layer, the web viewer, shared decisions and analytics, and invites with roles. You choose which one you are in by whether you sign in and connect a team — nothing about the desktop experience changes.
Solo — everything local
Solo is the full Operon experience with no cloud involved. Your sessions, traces, decisions, tasks, and analytics live in a local database on your device. You get the complete feature set — terminal, activity, timeline, tasks, analytics, worktrees, checkpoints, and the rest — without ever sending anything over the network.
Team — opt-in sync
Team mode layers cloud sync on top of the same local app. When you sign in and join a team, Operon syncs session metadata so your collaborators can see decisions, tasks, and outcomes, review sessions in the web viewer, and share analytics across the team. Team mode adds invites, roles, and shared project surfaces — without changing how you run sessions locally.
What sync actually uploads
Worth stating plainly. When you turn on cloud sync, Operon uploads more than status: events, tasks, decisions, and session details, plus — by default — prompt text, agent response text, tool inputs/outputs, and code diffs from your sessions. Operon never uploads your repository as files; the code your agent reads and edits is not sent as a codebase.
Note
Cloud sync is not metadata-only by default — it includes tool inputs/outputs and code diffs unless you turn off the per-project code-content toggle in Settings. It does not sync your repository or working tree as files.
